Happy Lemon is a China-based tea chain that has quickly expanded globally since its opening. The company was founded in 2006. and has branches in over 100 different cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Taipei, Hong Kong, USA and Canada. They are also the freshly handmade bubble tea franchise chain shop floated on the stock exchange market in December 2014.

I was introduced to the brand early last year at an Instagram meet, and I believe they have opened a few more locations since then. The mascot of Happy Lemon is an easily recognizable one ... literally a large anthropomorphic happy lemon.

Their menu includes a range of drinks such as milk tea, yakult, smoothies, but their most popular one is their rock salted cheese series. The salted cheese series is my favorite, and it's described as "creamy and enriched cheese mixed with rock salt." I have been to Happy Lemon on a few occasions, and most of the time I get the Green Tea with Salted Cheese, which I highly recommend to try.

Earlier last week, I also attended a Yelp Elite Event at the new Vaughan Happy Lemon location. The location was huge and super vibrant in colors (mainly yellow). The space is adorned with several decals showcasing the drinks and the brand. Overall, the experience was nice as two members were on hand that afternoon and the process to redeem the free drink went rather smoothly. Lots of drinks to choose from the menu!

Like many BBT shops, the routine to order is pretty simple:

1) Choose your drink
2) Choose size
3) Choose hot or cold
4) Choose topping
5) Choose sweetness and ice level

[FLASH Giveaway] Happy Lemon Canada

Chatime Canada is a Taiwanese franchise BBT chain, and has over 800 stores worldwide. The company opened their first location in Canada back in 2011, and that spot today is still very popular today. It has now been five years since they first opened, and they now operate 16 locations within Ontario.

Chatime Canada is celebrating their 5th birthday with a series of drinks called "Twilight" to commemorate the day on September 8, 2016. The new line of all-natural teas are made from Butterfly Pea Flower & Hibiscus Flower. What is great about the new drinks is that no artificial colors, no preservatives, and no extra sugar are added. Additionally, the tea drinks are "full of antioxidants with health benefits to memory, circulation, and eyesight" making them a healthier alternative if you're craving something sweet.

The four new colorful drinks are as followed:

Coconut Daydream
Hibiscus Sunset
Starry Lemon
Grapefruit Blush

Starry Lemon
“This enchanting array of blue and purple is visually evocative of the starry night sky.  The lemon flavour combines with the Butterfly Pea Tea’s antioxidants to create an enchanting display of beautiful changing colours.”

Coconut Daydream
“Featuring aromatic coconut flavour infused with the Butterfly tea and made into a tea latte with fresh milk, this drink transforms before your eyes from blue and white into the light blue of a bright sunshine afternoon.”

Hibiscus Sunset
“The Hibiscus Sunset features refreshing passion fruit and lychee flavours infused with the Hibiscus Flower Tea.  The invigorating and complex flavours are visually reflected in the red and orange hues combining into an orange glow of sunset.”

Grapefruit Blush
“The grapefruit blush, full of blue and red hues, is reminiscent of the first break of dawn.  The combination of tangy grapefruit with the Butterfly Pea Flower Tea transforms this drink into a beautiful pink sunrise.”

Bloggers also got the opportunity to taste several treats from Bake Code, and Chatime Bites from Menu Food Truck. Additionally, Chatime has also partnered with Christopher Siu of Daan Go to create several macarons for sale. The macaron flavors include roasted milk tea, Japanese pudding, maple lap cheung, chen pei tiramisu, and bitter melon peel.

Chatime Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
Chatime is a Taiwanese franchise bbt chain, and has over 800 stores worldwide. The company opened their first location in Toronto back in 2011, and that spot today is still very popular. Chatime has an extensive menu with lots of different drinks; signature milk tea, fresh tea, mousse, tea latte, QQ jelly drinks, smoothies, and more. It may not be the cheapest place for a cup of bubble tea, as it's a little more than $5 for a drink. However, I'd say that the quality of the products are definitely not lacking and the drinks are good. Customers are able to customize their order(s) to their liking as they're able to choose both the amount of sugar, and ice they want. The toppings are an extra charge (price varies) but they have a good selection of toppings from pearl, grass jelly, coconut jelly, red bean, aloe vera, rainbow jelly, pudding and malt.

One of my favorite drinks has to be their Chatime Roasted Milk Tea (large is $4.70) with grass jelly. The drink itself is flavorful without being overwhelming strong. I often opt for the chewy tapioca balls, but I have come to like grass jelly quite a bit. I have been to both downtown locations, and I prefer the Annex one over the Dundas location. The one on Dundas (near Chinatown) is always bustling with customers, sometimes it's even through the door. The Annex location has much shorter lines, and the space has more seating.

For those who like collecting points and rewards cards; Chatime has their very own loyalty program. They have partnered up with Vicinity Rewards Program and you can pick up the card at any Chatime locations. For every drink that you purchase at a participating Chatime location, you would get 1 point. For every 10 points earned, you can redeem for one free regular sized drink with one complimentary topping.

I met up with a friend for dinner last week, and we ended up going to Chatime afterwards. The North York location looked a lot more hip compared to their downtown counterparts. Despite the cold weather, there were quite a few patrons sitting around and enjoying their drinks. Since that day was an extreme cold alert, I didn't want to drink anything cold. So I opted for the warm version of the Roasted Milk Tea (large is $4.70). The warm version was decent, but I prefer the one with ice a lot more.
