Located at First Canadian Place on the mezzanine level is Maman Toronto. They are a Parisian-inspired cafe in the heart of the financial district offering a taste of Southern France. The savoury and sweet menu changes daily, featuring an assortment of dishes created by Chef Armand Arnal. Having been to Paris a year ago, I have come to adore Maman's detailed decor. They have replicated the allure of sitting in a Parisian cafe from the flowers, tables adorned with cute bunny ceramics, wooden communal tables down to the mosaic tile flooring. Perfect for a lunch visit.

Maman Toronto recently launched “Maman à Table” where diners are able to enjoy a $20 prix-fixe menu every Friday afternoon. Indulge in a three course menu featuring a starter, a choice of main, and finishing off with a selection of mini sweet bites and drip coffee or tea of your choice. The weather may be cooling off, but you can still enjoy this menu every Friday from 11:30 am to 2 pm all season on the fully licensed patio or inside the cafe.

For the starter, one has the option to choose between a cold summer soup “grilled tomato gazpacho with sweet red peppers & cucumber” or de-constructed avocado toast. I opted for the avocado toast as my starter. I enjoyed the DIY aspect of the avocado toast, and it's a healthier option, so that is always an added bonus.

Croque Maman - with Parisian Ham & Comté

I have tried the Croque Maman on several occasions, so I got the daily quiche instead. There were three different choices to select from, and I opted for the Ham and Cheese Quiche - served with mixed greens, as my main. The quiche was excellent with its flaky yet buttery pastry exterior loaded with a creamy filling mixed with ham and cheese. It was a downright delicious quiche.

Drip Coffee

We ended our Maman à Table experience with some Mini Sweet Bites from Cafe Gourmand. These satisfying bite-sized treats were great to nibble on to satisfy my sweet tooth without overindulging in sugar.

Maman à Table

Melitta is a Germany-based company selling coffee, and coffee makers worldwide. The company was named after Melitta Bentz (1873–1950) who founded the company in 1908. Many retailers today carry Melitta's premium whole bean coffee products including Metro, Loblaws, Longo's, Food Basics, Wal-Mart, Shopper's Drug Mart, and more.

A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to attend Melitta Media Breakfast held at Maman Toronto. Maman Toronto is a lovely bakery/cafe located on the mezzanine of First Canadian Place offering a taste of Southern France. The breakfast event was an intimate with a small group of media personnel and bloggers. We were also joined by three representatives from Melitta; Donna Gray, David Viola, Ian Buckingham. During the breakfast, we learned thoroughly about Melitta's history, and their coffee products. Overall, I thought that it was an engaging event, where we learned a lot, and got a taste of Melitta Deluxe European Roast coffee. The Deluxe European Roast is a traditional blend roasted a little darker resulting in a medium dark roast with bold European taste. It had a good aroma, and definitely something that I would drink in the morning to start my day.

We were also treated to coffee-flavoured pastries made with Melitta Coffee European Roast Ground that were exclusively made for the media breakfast. It was served on a three-tier platter consisting of raisin bread, almond croissant, madeleine with Melitta coffee, and éclair with Melitta coffee. I liked that the coffee-infused confections enhanced the flavors of the pastries without being overwhelmingly strong or bitter.

Granola Cups - Greek yogurt, granola, dried fruits, assorted nuts, and seasonal fresh berries

Croque Maman - ham, cheese and béchamel sauce

Thank you to Melitta and energi PR for having me, and hosting a great event.

Maman Toronto is a European bakery/cafe located on the mezzanine of First Canadian Place offering a taste of Southern France. They offer an assortment of baked goods, coffee drinks, sandwiches, cocktails, and salads. However, did you know that they also have an outdoor patio? I had the pleasure of attending their patio launch about two weeks ago where guests indulged on passed canapés, and cocktails while enjoying the warm weather.

Maman Toronto's patio is sizable, as it can seat 36 people, and overlooks the busy street of King St W. It's a great place to enjoy some delicious cocktails while indulging on classic French pastries. They actually have a great selection of freshly-baked pastries like croissants, tartelette, chouquette, cookies that are all baked in-house. Maman Toronto also offers a cinq-as-sept bar program (5 pm to 7 pm) with a carefully curated wine and cocktail list that perfectly complements the tapas dishes they served. You can read my blog on their tapas menu here. All of this can be enjoyed on the outdoor patio until the place is closed.

Although, the patio does not take reservations (first-come, first served), it is available for corporate and social functions. Given its vicinity to the Financial District, Maman Toronto's patio is a great place to visit during lunch or after work with friends and co-workers.

Maman Toronto is open Monday (7 am to 5 pm), Tuesday to Friday (7 am to 5 pm, and Saturday for brunch (10 am – 3 pm).

Maman Toronto's Patio Launch

Maman Toronto is a lovely bakery/cafe located on the mezzanine of First Canadian Place offering a taste of Southern France. It was a little tucked away in First Canadian Place (where the food court is), but it has a very rustic yet inviting ambiance. The entire cafe was adorned with cute bunny ceramics with flowers, wooden communal tables, and mosaic tile flooring, so it was very Instagram-friendly. There are already plenty of Instagram photos of their pretty coffee cups for your perusal online. Their menu also changes daily, and they offer an assortment of baked goods, coffee drinks, sandwiches, salads, and more.

Everything is baked fresh daily, and from locally-sourced ingredients. Maman recently launched tapas dishes on their menu, and I had the pleasure of attending the media preview of Maman's new tapas menu unveiling two weeks ago. The new menu was created by Michelin-starred chef, Armand Arnal, whose dishes are family-inspired recipes. Chef Armand Arnal is the head chef at the acclaimed La Chassagnette in Arles, France, and he has definitely added a lot of French flair to our city with the addition of Maman. As part of their cinq-as-sept bar program (5 pm to 7 pm); they also have a carefully curated wine and cocktail list that perfectly complements the tapas dishes served.

Herbes de Provence - calvados, lillet infused with herbes de
provence, lemon juice, sugar & egg whites
Le Vert - blanco tequilla, chartreuse, cucumber, lime & matcha

The new French inspired tapas menu features a selection of small and light sharing plates called "tartinettes" (the French version of tapas). Many of the tapas are served on toasted French baguette topped off with a variety of toppings. What I liked best was that customers are given the opportunity to customize their own tartinette board, and there are a few options available on the daily menu. Each tartinette costs $2.50, and the full menu can be view at http://mamantoronto.com/aperitifs/.

There were several tartinettes available that evening for tasting, and I was delighted that many of the combinations had flavors that worked rather well together. The kitchen produces contemporary French tartinettes dishes such as smoked ham with savora mustard & cornichon, roasted cauliflower with 2 year aged cheddar, smoked salmon with red onions, lemon & dill, and truffle "croque maman". Maman Toronto's new tapas menu caters very well to those who seek to partake in unwinding after work before dinner with their friends or colleagues. Maman Toronto is open Monday through Friday for breakfast, lunch and cinq-á-sept, and Saturday for brunch (closed on Sunday). Check out their website for their daily menu, as it changes everyday.

Sweets - chouquette, canelé, and cream puff with whipped cream and pineapple
