I had the pleasure of attending a local purchasing lunch hosted by Metro Ontario earlier last month. The lunch event took place at the Burroughes Building, and we were treated to a lovely three-course meal. Metro Ontario is one of the grocery stores that I often frequent to purchase groceries, as I find that they offer a lush offering of fresh products. One of my favorite things about Metro is convenience, as many stores are open late until 12 am or even 24 hours.
The dining room in the Burroughes Building was beautifully decorated with a large glass-topped table, and each panel was filled with different vegetables available at Metro Ontario.
The lunch was to introduce Metro's newest initiative, which was the launch of their new local purchasing program in Ontario. They have been a supporter of fresh and healthy products for quite a while now, so this new initiative is part of Metro's corporate responsibility approach. The new program is based on the idea of "establishing and maintaining a close and collaborative relationship with industry players, is intended to promote local agri-food products and increase access to them by all consumers." The program rests on the following three guidelines:
1) A unique showcase for regional products focused on increasing the presence and visibility of regional products in stores.
2) A key partner of Foodland Ontario and sectoral agri-food associations that promote Ontario products;
3) A key ally to Ontario innovative suppliers.

Thank you to both Metro Master Class and A & C for organizing a wonderful event.
